Dominic's Shaker Bottles

Appropriate Ages: Phase 2 (6 weeks-3-1/2 months) through Phase 7 (24 to 36 months)

Materials: clear spring water bottles, super glue, colored tape, variety of small items that can fit inside the clear bottles

How to make: Place colorful objects (bells, poms, beads, buttons, beans, etc.) into clear spring water bottles.  . Use super glue to seal the bottles and place colored tape around the cap after applying the glue.

Activity: Infants and toddlers can use bottles pre-made by adults. Older children can help select the things they would like to put in the bottles. These bottles that you can see into are a wonderful, inexpensive musical instrument for preschoolers, simple rattles for infants, and can be part of sound discrimination activities for toddlers.

Comment: These are named after a child in my church who fell in love with my set of sixteen shakers when he was 18-months-old and still asks about them and enjoys them (in a different way) at nearly 4-years-old.
