As the Bombs Fell

As the bombs fell, I wept.

I wept for the Iraqi children cowering in fear.

I wept for the American children witnessing war.

I wept for the adults unable or unwilling to protect the children from violence and war.

I wept for our hatred, our paranoia, our fear, and our arrogance that enables war to happen.

I wept for my country choosing to kill; losing its integrity in an illegal and unprovoked war.

I wept for democracy as we allowed a demagogue to wage his war with the lives of our young and with the taxes we pay.

I wept for humanity turning its back to God, to Allah, to Jehovah, to the Great Spirit.
